In September 1968, Jenkins was going door-to-door when she noticed that she was being followed by two white men. Jenkins approached the home of Norma and Don Neal and reported that she was being followed. The Neals called the police to their home, but the police were unable to find the car that was reportedly following Jenkins. Norma Neal asked Jenkins to stay with them, but Jenkins felt as she had inconvenienced the family enough and left their home. A half hour later, Jenkins was stabbed to death with a screwdriver. For more than 34 years, the murder of Jenkins remained unsolved. But on May 8, 2002, police arrested Kenneth C. Richmond, a 70-year-old career criminal with a history of bizarre behavior and affiliation with groups such as the Ku Klux Klan. Richmond was implicated in the crime by his daughter, Shirley Richmond McQueen, who witnessed the slaying as a child. Police detectives working in a “cold crimes” squad, were led to McQueen by an anonymous letter. When questioned, McQueen confirmed what the letter alleged that, as a 7-year-old, she had watched from the back seat of a car as her father and another man killed young Carol Jenkins. McQueen identified the clothing that Jenkins was wearing that night, which had never been revealed to the public, so detectives believed that the information given about the murder was accurate and they had found one of the killers. McQueen’s father gave her seven dollars — one dollar for each year of her life to stay quiet about what she had witnessed. At the time of the killing, Richmond lived on a Hendricks County farm and was just passing through Martinsville on the night Jenkins was murdered. Richmond never went to trial for Jenkins’ murder. <p style="">i Hate how entitled adults can feel over a child’s hair!</p>
<p>it started when i was young myself, i wanted a mohawk, but my dad didn’t approve of that look on a “girl”, and insisted i’d regret such a bold cut. at 16 i was finally given full autonomy over my own head.</p>
<p>but then i have a son and everyone around us is trying to keep his hair short. when we finally moved out just me my partner and him, i told him he doesn’t need to get any haircuts he doesn’t want.</p>
<p>so he starts growing it out, it’s still short but coming on mid-length. his teacher makes a point to tell me it’s getting long as if i don’t have eyes. i hear her walking out with him one day talking to him about haircuts, as if to coax him into one. eventually i get child services called on me for ‘forcing a transgender lifestyle’ over what i can only assume is from a combination of me drawing cute ponies on his valentine box and letting him go to school in a ponytail.</p>
<p>he kept it short for awhile after but told me he wanted to grow it out again, so i let him of course. he comes home one day after getting a haircut at his grandpa’s and tells me he didn’t Want the haircut.</p>
<p>i ask why he got it then and learned he was bribed with a promise of a surprise IF he cut his hair.</p>
<p>tl;dr people need to back the hell up off of children and let them have owership of what’s on THEIR body! /rant<br/></p>

<p>This happened to me when I was little too!! Growing up I had naturally tight Shirley Temple curls. The only problem was that you can’t get a hair brush through it if your life depended on it until it grew out over a few years. </p>
<p>but This One Lady from church decided that leaving my hair messy and curly was child abuse and threatened to call social services on my family every damn time she saw me until one day she was the designated kid watcher and ho boy my momma tells me i came out with tears in my eyes and greasy slicked down hair and that’s where she ends the story because i think my mother beat her ass but yeah.</p>

<p>My parents were super controlling over my hair when I was growing up. I always want to grow it out longer but they kept pressuring me to make it shorter. At one point my mom offered to pay me $50 bucks to cut my hair super short. She did, but I wasn’t happy about it in the end and there was the fact that <b>she was willing to pay $50 so that I would allow my hair to be cut super short.</b></p>
<p>I still get this today when I’m an adult. My parents keep going “Your hair looks so much better when its short”, “I can see your face better when its short”, even though my face is still clearly visible when my hair is longer. Why is it that parents think they have complete control over how their kids should look?! IT’S DRIVING ME CRAZY!!!</p>

<p>it started when i was young myself, i wanted a mohawk, but my dad didn’t approve of that look on a “girl”, and insisted i’d regret such a bold cut. at 16 i was finally given full autonomy over my own head.</p>
<p>but then i have a son and everyone around us is trying to keep his hair short. when we finally moved out just me my partner and him, i told him he doesn’t need to get any haircuts he doesn’t want.</p>
<p>so he starts growing it out, it’s still short but coming on mid-length. his teacher makes a point to tell me it’s getting long as if i don’t have eyes. i hear her walking out with him one day talking to him about haircuts, as if to coax him into one. eventually i get child services called on me for ‘forcing a transgender lifestyle’ over what i can only assume is from a combination of me drawing cute ponies on his valentine box and letting him go to school in a ponytail.</p>
<p>he kept it short for awhile after but told me he wanted to grow it out again, so i let him of course. he comes home one day after getting a haircut at his grandpa’s and tells me he didn’t Want the haircut.</p>
<p>i ask why he got it then and learned he was bribed with a promise of a surprise IF he cut his hair.</p>

<p>This happened to me when I was little too!! Growing up I had naturally tight Shirley Temple curls. The only problem was that you can’t get a hair brush through it if your life depended on it until it grew out over a few years. </p>
<p>but This One Lady from church decided that leaving my hair messy and curly was child abuse and threatened to call social services on my family every damn time she saw me until one day she was the designated kid watcher and ho boy my momma tells me i came out with tears in my eyes and greasy slicked down hair and that’s where she ends the story because i think my mother beat her ass but yeah.</p>

At one point my mom offered to pay me $50 bucks to cut my hair super short. She did, but I wasn’t happy about it in the end and there was the fact that <b>she was willing to pay $50 so that I would allow my hair to be cut super short.</b></p>
<p>I still get this today when I’m an adult. My parents keep going “Your hair looks so much better when its short”, “I can see your face better when its short”, even though my face is still clearly visible when my hair is longer. Why is it that parents think they have complete control over how their kids should look?! IT’S DRIVING ME CRAZY!!!</p>
