Family, Instagram, and Ironic: Selena Quintanilla Will Receive Posthumous Star on Hollywood Walk of Fame @balleralert Selena Quintanilla Will Receive Posthumous Star on Hollywood Walk of Fame-blogged by @thereal__bee ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ ENews reports that Mexican-American icon SelenaQuintanilla will be receiving a posthumous star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Nov. 3. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ Suzette Quintanilla, the late singer's sister, announced the news via social media. That same day, Selena will also receive another exciting honor. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ "Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, actress, producer and Texas native EvaLongoria will be there to proclaim November 3rd as the official 'Selena Day' in the city of Los Angeles," wrote Suzette. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ Suzette and the rest of the Quintanilla family will be present for the 6:30 PM ceremony. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ Last year, Longoria took to Instagram to announce that she too would be receiving a star the same year as her idol. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ In a heartfelt post Longoria wrote, "I could never have dreamed that one day I would receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. But even more ironic is that the same year I receive my star, so does my idol, my inspiration, my fellow Tejana, my fellow Corpus Christi native, Selena Quintanilla. She was the reason I even dared to dream that a better life was possible. And that that life didn't have to distance you from where you came from," she said. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ "So many people become famous and leave a place without ever crediting it with the role it played in shaping their lives. Selena was proud of being from Corpus Christi, Texas. And that made me proud to be from Corpus." ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ She continued, "She blazed the way for all of us and I will be forever grateful to her for not only that but for the pure joy I felt when I got to see her perform. Her smile, her charisma, her beauty put every single person who watched her under a spell. Thank you, Selena. I know I will receive my star on the Walk of Fame because you dared to dream it first."

Alive, Children, and Family: Let's Talk: Why Is It Important For Blacks In High Positions To Stand Up For Their People? @balleralert Let’s Talk: Why Is It Important For Blacks In High Positions To Stand Up For Their People? - blogged by @peachkyss ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ You would think that in 2017, the slave mentality of some people wouldn’t be present. Well, guess what? It’s here and it’s up to us to stand up for our rights. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We can protest as much as we like but there are some people in this society that don’t give a damn how blacks feel. Everyday we are constantly reminded that our opinions don’t have any type of substance and we are tired. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ There are so many black people that are in higher positions that have a platform to stand up for us as a whole but refuse to do so. I’m sick and tired of hearing, “I don’t want to lose my sponsors” or “This is my job and I have to do what I’m told.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This is pure BS! That’s slave mentality. You like being mistreated by “the people” at the top. Our ancestors did not care whether they had a job to fulfill or not. They spoke up every chance they got and we must do the same. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We cannot let this celebrity in chief continue to degrade us and treating this country as a damn dictatorship. This country is supposed to be moving forward but we keep getting knocked backwards. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ If you have a platform speak up. Your children, significant others, and family are looking up to you for guidance and support. Don’t let them down by being silent. Speak the hell up! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Don’t let us continue to be degraded on a daily basis because of the color of our skin. Our ancestors fought for our freedom and we must continue to keep the legacy and hope alive. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We are counting on you, so do what’s right. Stop thinking with your wallet and start thinking about how your boss only sees you as “his slave.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ What are your thoughts?
