The model is Muslim, as far as I can tell, and H&M's first Muslim model sees this as positive representation. The model is Muslim and this is a high-end luxury designer marketing towards Muslim women in the Midd le East, a market that is essentially completely untapped and is usually ignored by couture and the high end fashion market. Besides that, Islam is a religion. You can be white and a Muslim. You can be black and a Muslim. You can be Chinese and be a Muslim. You can be Arab and a Muslim. Your skin color does not determine your religion. Also, they're Dolche and Gabbana. They're not going to have youtubers or Instagrammers as their models. They are a super high-end couture designer out of Italy. They are going to have professional models, and they are not marketing towards Americans. This is not marginalization. This is not "two white women" profiteering off a marginalized group. They are marketing primarily in the Middle East, particularly Saudi Arabia, where Muslim people are the MAJORITY. This is the high-end fashion industry responding to a gap in the market, not exploiting a group for profit.
