College, Community, and Definitely: Congratulations to Luis A. Perez on being sworn in as an attorney today! Luis became the first undocumented student to graduate from UCLA School of Law! HOOLSNOTPRISO CHOOLSNOTPRISO SCHOOLSNOTPRISO SCHOOLSNOTPRIS SCHOOLSNOTPRI CHOOLSNOTPR HOOLSNOTP OLSNOT OLN COLS Rp @JustinoMora1: In 2010, Luis became the first undocumented student to graduate from UCLA School of Law (@uclalawschool) and paved the way for others to follow. Luis is a fellow Bruin, an activist and a fighter! Through his advocacy, Luis has helped thousands of young immigrants in California apply for DACA despite not being eligible to apply himself. Luis attended LA Mission College and began his activism in the early 2000s. He played an important role in the early fight for the CA Dream Act, the Federal DreamAct, DACA, and other pro-immigration legislation. Luis did not qualify for DACA because he aged out but that didn't discouraged him from continuing to fight for the immigrant community. I remember the first time I heard the story of an undocumented student studying law at @UCLA and thinking to myself "if we can learn the law, then we can definitely change the law, represent our people in court, and bring about greater change". Luis was one of the reasons why I decided to transfer to UCLA - I knew that it was the breeding ground of undocumented student leaders and organizers. Luis is an inspiration to so many of us and it was an honor to attend his swearing in ceremony! HereToStay Luis was ALSO a co-founder and the first co-chair of IDEAS at UCLA (@ucla_ideas), the first and the official immigrant youth-led organization for undocumented students at UCLA. For over a decade, IDEAS has provided a safe space for undocumented students to seek support, share their stories, and gain valuable leadership skills. cleandreamact dreamact dreamactnow NoDreamNoDeal dreamer immigration undocumentedandunafraid
