rp @bbcnews The scale of the tragedy at Grenfell Tower is becoming much clearer. 17 people are now confirmed dead - the BBC thinks there are 60 more people who didn’t survive. Fire chiefs do not expect to find any more survivors in the burnt-out Grenfell Tower in north Kensington. The first victim has been named by friends and family as Mohammed Alhajali - a Syrian refugee who came to the country in 2014. According to the Syria Solidarity Campaign, Alhajali was a civil engineering student at West London University. His dream was to be able to go back home one day and rebuild Syria. Mohammed's older brother Omar, who was with him in the flat, survived but lost Mohammed on the way out. Omar was rescued by the Fire Services while Mohammed went back upstairs. Mohammed was on the phone for two hours with a friend in Syria, waiting to be rescued. He was trying to reach his family in Syria but he could not get connected to them due to the situation in Syria. He had not seen his family for four years. When the fire reached his flat on the 14th floor, Mohammed bid his friend goodbye, saying that the fire had reached him. He asked his friend to pass on the message to his family.
