 "Here's your daughter, Mr Lester. I'll show you where you can wait," A nurse says, l
 look down and see she's shoved the baby onto me. My heart's torn in two different
 directions. Should be happy about this baby or should l be scared for Dan?
 "What's happening to Dan?" I ask
 I'm sure it's nothing major. Come
 l'll lead you to his recovery room
 The nurse walks out of the operating room and beckons me to follow her. I figure I
 have no choice. I obviously can't be with Dan, and I have to take care of our new
 baby right now. The nurse sits me down in a small room with one of the more
 comfortable looking hospital beds, propped up into sitting position, a chair on one
 side of it and a transparent crib on the other side
 "Make yourself and your baby comfortable. Someone will come shortly to tell you
 the update on Mr Howell
 And with that the nurse leaves the room. I look down at the baby in my arms, and
 get a good look at her for the first time. My breath catches. She has round, pink
 cheeks, a tiny nose, delicate ears, slobbery red lips and chubby hands. She's the
 most gorgeous little thing. lwant to keep holding her, soldon't put her in the crib. I
 go and sit down in the chair. She's been wrapped up in a white blanket with pink
 stripes, and has a pink beanie over her head. lwonder if she has any hair? lgently
 lift up the beanie, feeling her soft, warm skin, and see she has a tuft of red hair. Not
 orange hair, red hair. Dark red hair. I wonder who she got that from? I pull her
 beanie back down. She opens her mouth impossibly wide in a huge yawn. My heart
 aches at how cute she is. I lift her up and kiss her gently on the forehead
 "You're so precious, little lion
 l tell her, "I can't wait until Daddy sees you."
 Dan! I forgot! l start to panic again. As if sensing it, my baby girl starts to cry. hold
 her close to me and bounce her up and down slightly
 "Shhhhh, baby, shhhhh. It's okay. Everything's fine. Daddy will be here soon," I'm
 more reassuring myself than her. Her cries stop, and she opens her eyes
 They're a light blue that I think most babies are born with, so l assume they'll
 probably change overtime, but still... they're breathtaking
 l hold my pinkie out to her and she grabs it with her whole fist. l take a deep breath
 Even if Daddy doesn't come back
 l whisper to her, "we'll be okay. We can make
 it, just the two of us. I'll always be here to protect you

The shelter thinks I am about 2YEARS old . I came in as a STRAY on 02-16-2017 02-24-2017 AT RISK MEMO Stephen A1103935 is At Risk due to CIRDC 😰 . I’ll admit it (the first step is admitting it). I’m a sucker for the grey ghosts😘. The silver sweethearts, the charcoal cuties, the dove darlings😍. So obviously the very sight of Stephen, a sliver of a pup laying quietly in his kennel, was enough to get my heart skipping beats💓. As with all great love stories it wasn’t mutual to start. I was a new face to Stephen and he was shy😔but the sight of the leash clearly appealed🙂, he stayed still as a stone statue as I swung open his kennel door. But our walk was meant to be, it was even better than ever expected😀. From the moment we step outside Stephen IMPRESSES me with his leash manners. He pads happily in front of me, looking back often for guidance, and sweetly tilts his head as another dog passes to our right. Once in the park Stephen sits for his treats, poses wonderfully for photos, and after a while even grants me a snuggle💓or two, or three. There’s now a glint in his eye, something special and sweet I can’t quite put my finger on, and as he cocks his head again at the sound of a toy his adorable ears start to wiggle😊. Our shy guy is gone - in his place, a confident, playful, and inquisitive boy has emerged. We eventually call it a day and Stephen happily hops back into his kennel. And hours later, as I’m collecting my things about to make my way home, I spot him again. This time with a staff member and two new volunteers. Stephen has been chosen to help show them the ropes. “I just love this guy.” 💗The staff member exclaims as Stephen trots proudly in front ears bouncing. “So do I,” I reply smiling and give Stephen a quick wink😉. 💔 NY MANHATTAN TO BE DESTROYED 02-25-17💔 Publicly Adoptable . My name is STEPHEN💙 My Animal ID is A1103935. I am a male gray and white pit bull mix. The shelter thinks I am about 2YEARS old . I came in as a STRAY on 02-16-2017 02-24-2017 AT RISK MEMO Stephen A1103935 is At Risk due to CIRDC 😰 . I’ll admit it (the first step is admitting it). I’m a sucker for the grey ghosts😘. The silver sweethearts, the charcoal cuties, the dove darlings😍. So obviously the very sight of Stephen, a sliver of a pup laying quietly in his kennel, was enough to get my heart skipping beats💓. As with all great love stories it wasn’t mutual to start. I was a new face to Stephen and he was shy😔but the sight of the leash clearly appealed🙂, he stayed still as a stone statue as I swung open his kennel door. But our walk was meant to be, it was even better than ever expected😀. From the moment we step outside Stephen IMPRESSES me with his leash manners. He pads happily in front of me, looking back often for guidance, and sweetly tilts his head as another dog passes to our right. Once in the park Stephen sits for his treats, poses wonderfully for photos, and after a while even grants me a snuggle💓or two, or three. There’s now a glint in his eye, something special and sweet I can’t quite put my finger on, and as he cocks his head again at the sound of a toy his adorable ears start to wiggle😊. Our shy guy is gone - in his place, a confident, playful, and inquisitive boy has emerged. We eventually call it a day and Stephen happily hops back into his kennel. And hours later, as I’m collecting my things about to make my way home, I spot him again. This time with a staff member and two new volunteers. Stephen has been chosen to help show them the ropes. “I just love this guy.” 💗The staff member exclaims as Stephen trots proudly in front ears bouncing. “So do I,” I reply smiling and give Stephen a quick wink😉.
